Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski talks with students in Mr. Erick Potter’s U.S. History Class at Jasper-Troupsburg High School
From Office of NYS Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski,
GREENWOOD – Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski presented $20,000 in aid to Jasper-Troupsburg School Superintendent Jason Oliver during a talk with a U.S. History class at the school on Monday.
Assemblyman Sempolinski has been working with Superintendent Oliver to help the district secure assistance after the school was flooded twice in three years, first in 2021 by Tropical Storm Fred and again in 2024 by Tropical Storm Debby.
“There are a lot of school districts in the 148th Assembly District but none have sustained the kind of life-changing and chaos-inducing damage Jasper-Troupsburg has,” Assemblyman Sempolinski said “The Tuscarora Creek flowed right through their building twice, forcing all the students, faculty and staff to relocate to other facilities. I want to do all I can to help bring some stability to these kids’ lives.
“In addition to advocating for the district as they work on getting disaster assistance from the FEMA and New York State, I was able to provide them with this unrestricted state aid to help them out.”
Assemblyman Sempolinski announced the money during a discussion with a Jasper-Troupsburg junior U.S. History class about federal and state government and the role educated citizens have in preserving American democracy.
Superintendent Oliver said his students have many needs not covered by federal and state disaster aid, which is aimed at rebuilding school facilities. He said the district will put the $20,000 from Assemblyman Sempolinski to good use.
“The Jasper-Troupsburg Central School District is deeply grateful to Assemblyman Sempolinski for his advocacy and support of our students,” Mr. Oliver said. “His announcement of $20,000 in additional state aid will directly benefit our programs and help us continue providing high-quality opportunities for our learners. We also appreciated the assemblyman taking time to meet with our juniors in U.S. History class and share his experiences in public service. Partnerships like these strengthen our district and our community as we continue our recovery and growth.”
Assemblyman Sempolinski said he is happy to be able to help the district. He also thanked Jasper-Troupsburg Social Studies Teacher Erick Potter for inviting him to talk to his U.S. History Class.
“Honestly, this is one of the best parts of my job,” he said. “Public service is all about helping people out. I’m grateful to have this opportunity to do something positive for the students, teachers and staff at Jasper-Troupsburg and the community.”
