27 year old male suspect held without bail

On September 15, 2025, at approximately 3:53 p.m., the New York State Police were contacted by the Chemung County Child Protective Services following the death of a child brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in the city of Elmira.
The victim, age 3, of Horseheads, NY, was transported to the hospital by his mother’s boyfriend after he was found unresponsive. Despite lifesaving measures, the child was pronounced deceased. Hospital staff contacted CPS after observing suspicious injuries on the victim and another sibling.
Following an investigation by the New York State Police, it was determined that the fatal injuries inflicted on the child were caused by Christopher M. Woods, age 27, of Horseheads, NY. Woods was arrested and charged with:
• Murder in the Second Degree (A Felony)
He was arraigned in Chemung County Court and remanded to jail without bail.
