“Is there still an “honest” truth?”
By Dennis Shutt, Wellsville
With the election coming on Tuesday, there are still voters wondering about the Presidential race. I was one of those, until recently and logic became the answer.
If you are satisfied with the direction our country has gone in 12 of the last 16 years, vote in that direction. That was 8 years under Mr. Obama and 4 years under Mr. Biden. Mrs. Harris has the potential, to continue on that path, for 8 more years.
Obviously, there is Mr. Trump. If you like what he did for 4 years, you vote that way. He has four years left and then, we can all start over.
I will use this math as the logical choice, as everything else has become a blur.
We have all spent hours listening and reading the rhetoric that has been spewed. Almost to nauseum. It reminds me of two seven-year-olds fighting, in a sand box. ‘ It’s mine’, ‘ No, I had it first’, ‘You took it from me’, ‘You are a liar’, ‘No, you are a liar’. My deduction is that everyone is lying to some degree and lying seems to be the norm in our lives.
Is there still an “honest” truth?
You can turn on any news channel and listen as the “truth” be told. Now, flip the channel and listen to the same “truth” be told in a completely different direction. Go to any public board meeting you choose and you will hear the same thing. They think we are all sheep and will follow them over a cliff. Especially, if they have the “smile”, the “vernacular” and the “look”. That is the formula for misleading your audience with your “truth”. You notice I did not say lie.
If you look up the definition for truth, as I did, you find the word typically in that very definition. How can you use the word, typically, to define anything?
With that, I have concluded that after 66 years I am completely out of touch with today’s “truth” and the only thing left for me is to use logic.
Where is Walter Cronkite when you need him or just a Grandparent that lived in a time, that a handshake meant you did not need a lawyer?
