The former Evans Agency is now Gallagher
By Andrew Harris,
In December 2023, Gallagher announced it had completed the acquisition of The Evans Agency, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evans Bancorp, Inc. The new Gallagher sign is part of the continued integration of the Evans team into Gallagher’s now expanded operations in Western New York.
Aaron Whitehouse has been evolving with the insurance business in Wellsville since the days of Allen Dygert Hauser. His father, Paul Whitehouse was a partner and had just brought his sons Aaron and Ian, into the agency when they merged with Main Street icon Richardson and Stout in 1998.
Whitehouse, along with his brother Ian Whitehouse and Rich Ewell, have led the location through several recent changes, primarily when Richardson and Stout was purchased by Evans Insurance in 2018.
Today Aaron stands in front of 80 North Main, as a Senior Vice-President of Gallagher, one of the world’s largest insurers. As the brand new Gallagher sign hangs over the iconic building the Whitehouse brothers and Ewell can’t help but be excited.

“We are thrilled with the installation of our new sign as it is the next step in the integration of Gallagher and The Evans Agency, which was announced in December 2023. When we become part of Gallagher, we gained the leverage and knowledge of a worldwide leader with over 95 years of insurance innovation, while also maintaining strong ties to our vibrant Wellsville community and the surrounding area. Clients and employees new to Gallagher will continue to benefit from the scale only an organization like Gallagher can provide, including greater market reach, a wealth of global expertise and access to new and evolving technologies dedicated to improving risk management strategies and solutions.”

The Evans Agency was a commercial property/casualty insurance broker with public entity and scholastic expertise, serving clients throughout Western New York. The agency also offered personal lines and employee benefits services. Its expertise and culture are an excellent fit for Gallagher’s regional operations and will continue to enhance its capabilities in the region. Aaron Whitehouse and his team now operate under the direction of Brendan Gallagher, head of Gallagher’s Northeast region retail property/casualty brokerage operations.
Brendan had this to say about Whitehouse and the new partnership:
“Gallagher consistently seeks out merger opportunities where they make sense and with companies whose business and core values complement our own. We found a highly regarded partner in each other with a reputation for professionalism, knowledge and similar shared standards and Gallagher has been better positioned than ever to serve the expanding business community in Western New York. We enjoy working along Aaron’s team of smart and resourceful professionals who are committed to growing our business together, applying their expertise with access to Gallagher’s global resources and refining and expanding our capabilities in the region.”
Gallagher is one of the world’s largest insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting firms. With more than 53,000 people working around the globe, the company is connected to the places where we do business and to every community we call home.
Becoming a part of Gallagher comes with some real tangible benefits for customers. As Whitehouse explains, the size and strength of Gallagher will give more customers more options in the future.
