By Mary Gardner-Ruch
On Tuesday, August 20th, former Allegany County Historian Craig Braack, will provide a presentation on Allegany County’s one-room schoolhouses and the history of public education in New York. Braack was County Historian for 30 years. His knowledge and excellent photography skills will make for an interesting and impressive presentation.
His presentation will focus on the evolution of public school education in NYS from the 1700s, the one-room era, and centralization, to contemporary consolidations. Also covered, will be how the present-day shape and size of our central school districts came to be. Braack promises that there will not be a test at the end!
Alight lunch will be served at 12:30, followed by the presentation. All are welcome. The event takes place at Grace United Church located at 289 North Main Street in Wellsville.
