A woman wanted for allegedly murdering three of her roommates in Virginia and led police on a high-speed chase through Allegany County to Bath is behind bars this morning.

New York State Police confirmed during a press conference late Thursday night Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, of Virginia, was in custody.

The chase — reportedly as fast as 130 miles per hour — went on Interstate 86 through Angelica and Hornell and police put down spike strips in Bath which appeared to have caused the vehicle she was driving to lose control and strike a guide rail.

Drones were called to help and troopers said she was taken into custody without incident or injuries to law enforcement of the woman.

Television station CBS-6 in Richmond reported Venable, 23, was wanted on three counts of second-degree murder and using a gun while committing a felony. It’s not her first brush with the law as police in Virginia said she was charged with assault and battery over an altercation at a McDonald’s where she was working in April.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday, June 4 during a welfare check on the residents in a home found 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese deceased from upper body trauma. Venable was a roommate to the victims and was the main suspect.

The vehicle she was driving was first spotted in Allegany County around 5:45 p.m. when New York State Troopers spotted her gray 2009 Honda Civic. Troopers attempted to stop Venable but said she did not respond and they started a pursuit.

Troopers said they used a tire-deflation device in Bath on the I-390 Interchange. Troopers said a fugitive warrant for Venable will come in and Venable will be  extradited back to Virginia.

It was a busy Thursday for the police. Earlier in the day, there were bank robberies after an Olean man allegedly carjacked a vehicle. Police in Allegany, Cattaraugus and McKean counties were on the case and charged Edwin McPeak, Jr., of Olean with robbery.
