Help keep Wellsville’s hallowed ground maintained, consider a donation

From the Woodlawn Cemetery Association,

WOODLAWN CEMETERY in Wellsville will begin its spring cleaning soon and are requesting those who maintain loved one’s graves to remove all unseasonal items (such as wreaths and flags) as well as broken unkept items from graves by April 21, 2024.    The groundskeeping staff will be removing these items after that date.  You may also schedule a time to pick up items at the office by calling 5895-593-1541.   If arrangements have been made with the staff, items will be held until May 10, 2024.  After that date they will be discarded.  We understand these items may be meaningful, however it is important for the ease of maintaining 36 acres and over 9,000 graves that we enforce the Rules and Regulations of the cemetery which state in part (copies available at the office):

“All containers of flowers be placed on the sides of the monument, not in front.  No in-ground planting of any kind allowed in the cemetery.  The Woodlawn Cemetery Association reserve the right to remove all flowers, wreaths, or other decoration from graves as soon as they become unsightly.”

Mementos have been commonly left along gravestones over the past few years.  We are asking for solar lights, poles, and other items also be placed as close to gravestones as possible and along the side instead of the front of gravestones for ease of mowing and trimming.

Woodlawn Cemetery is pleased you have laid your loved ones to rest in its peaceful grounds.  With Memorial Day approaching the Cemetery would also like to remind anyone that has a desire to donate a tree to plant as a beautiful, long-lasting memorial you may also call the office to discuss details.  Recommendations and plans can be made with the staff.

We receive no Federal, State or local funding, and our officers and board members are all unpaid volunteers.  We are required by NYS laws to pay minimum wage ($15 pe hour) to all hired workers and operate on a limited budget making it difficult to make all the improvements we would like to make; donations (which are tax deductible) are always appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns or would like to serve on our board, you may call the office at 585-593-1541.
