After experiencing the highest number of deaths since the pandemic began, Allegany county has announced a rare press conference. While speculation has swirled about declaring a state of emergency in the county, the specific purpose of the press conference is unknown. Several other Western New York counties have declared a state of emergency in order to respond to the healthcare crisis.
Earlier this week, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, referred to some rural counties like Allegany as, “reckless,” for having low vaccination rates and contributing to the regional crisis.
From the Allegany County Health Department:
“Due to the high COVID positivity rate, low vaccination rates, and an increase in hospitalizations and deaths across Allegany County, we will be holding a Facebook Live Stream Press Conference on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon).
Please like the Allegany County Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/alleganycountyny ahead of time so you may tune-in to the Facebook Live Stream Press Conference.
