Mary Elaine Goodridge, 74, went to the arms of Jesus on Wednesday (May 11, 2022) surrounded by her loving family at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Mrs. Goodridge was born in Olean on January 21, 1948 to Gordon M. and Lois Catherine (Jackson) Maynard. She was a 1965 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse, Pa.  On July 10, 1965 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Millport, Pa., Elaine married the love of her life, Jerry R. Goodridge who survives.

Elaine was primarily devoted to the care and well-being of her family. She later joined the work force by working at Scio Central School as a cafeteria worker and substituting in the office. Before long, she jumped in with both feet and started driving school bus for Scio, which she did for 21 years before retiring in 2010.

Along with her loving husband of 56 years, Elaine is survived by three children, Jerry Carl Goodridge of Belmont, Danny Scott Goodridge of Friendship and Karen Yvonne Goodridge of Lewisburg, Pa.; her siblings, Patricia (James) Kloosterman of Fort Myers, Fla., Donna F. (Terry) Mascho of Bolivar, and Martin Gordon Maynard of Olean; six grandchildren, Jerry David Goodridge of Belmont, Joshua P. Goodridge of Andover, Shelby N. Goodridge of Andover, Megan Goodridge of Salisbury, N.C., Katelyn (Corey) Waters of Wellsville and Luna Goodridge of Lewisburg, Pa.; five great grandchildren, Liam Goodridge, Blake Goodridge, Elaini Goodridge, Leah Waters and Carson Waters; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elaine was preceded in death by an infant son, Baby Goodridge, whom she now knows intimately in Heaven.

Mrs. Goodridge has battled cancer for a number of years and became well acquainted with her doctors in Rochester. She often tempted them with her blackberry or coconut crème pies. Once she learned they enjoyed Cuba Cheese, it became common practice to include that treat for them when she had to go up for treatments.

Elaine loved life and lived exuberantly. She prized her bus-driving friends dearly, taking great pleasure in their antics and escapades. In truth, she counted all the people in her life as special blessings.

She was a wonderful cook and baker and it was her practice to share with everyone. Her mornings were likely to find someone stopping in for coffee and a taste of the goodies she had just waiting for any friend or family member to come along. She and Jerry truly delighted in sharing their life with others and treasured these times.

Elaine had a heart overflowing with hospitality and love for others. She cherished the holidays and had great joy in making them wonderful for her family. There was always a place for everyone.

She was a long-time member of Genesis Bible Church in Scio and with a grateful heart saw her children follow the Lord as well.

A Celebration of Life service to honor Elaine will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home Scio/Wellsville. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
